Australian union seeks to block BHP coal ballot

An Australiasag mill feed size distributionn labor union has applied to the country's independent industrial umpire to prevent BHP Billiton from balloting members over a proposed new workplace agreement, arguing hundreds of coal mine workers have yet to receive information packs outlining details of the offer.

The Construction, Forestry, Mining and Energy Union in a statement said Fair Work Australia would hear its application early Wednesday. "We have grave concerns that many of our members will not have the opportunity to vote in this very important ballot about the future of their work conditions," said Andrew Vickers, general secretary of the union's mining and energy arm. The union, which rejected BHP's claim that negotiations were at an impasse, said it is seeking orders that the postal vote due to take place between April 13 and 30, be halted until the company meets employee representatives to conclude negotiations and consult over the process for a ballot. It also reiterated that thousands of members from three bargaining unions will strike from Thursday night through Saturday at seven metallurgical coal mines BHP jointly owns with...

Murchison Metals to miss Oakajee deadline

The revelatzenith stone crusher 300tph price listion yesterday by Murchison's new chief executive, Greg Martin, will place pressure on WA Premier Colin Barnett to strip Murchison's half-owned development vehicle, Oakajee Port & Rail, of the right to build the troubled project in the Mid-West iron ore region.

However, sources close to the project suggested last night that Mr Barnett might have no choice but to stick with OPR beyond December 31 because it was the only entity with the ability to begin work in the near future. He may also be tempted to allow OPR more time to bring in other parties, including powerful Chinese interests, to help fund the infrastructure. Yesterday's admission means Oakajee is likely to be further delayed beyond the revised timelines announced earlier this year, which would have allowed construction to begin...

Otis Gold Corp.: Kilgore Project Update

Otis Gold is pleased to provide an update on recent developortable stone crusher plantpments at its Kilgore Gold Project, Clark County, Idaho.

A total of up to 10,000 metres of drilling is planned for Kilgore in 2011. This season's drill program commenced on June 22, 2011, and Otis currently has two core rigs drilling operating on a 24-hour basis. To date, Otis has completed 17 holes totaling 4,150 metres at Mine Ridge (11 holes) and Prospect Ridge (6 holes). Based on progress to date, the Company expects to complete the planned Mine Ridge and Prospect Ridge drilling by the end of September. The Company may expand the ongoing drill program at these two sites dependent on drill results. Drilling is being conducted by Timberline Drilling of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho.

Uranex plans JV for exploration programme for Songea Coal project, Tanzania

dose yello sand have gold in it

Uranex has said they are aware of market commentary relating to a joint venture for participation in the 2012 exploration programme at the Songea Coal Project in Tanzania.

The Company can confirm that it has received a number of unsolicited proposals which remain incomplete and confidential. These discussions are at a preliminary stage only and have yet to receive any firm indications of interest or how the participation may be structured.

Whilst Uranex has people with significant experience in coal exploration, the Company believes that additional experience from other coal focussed companies is required to unlock the potential of this coal field in the near term and thus create the best value for shareholders. This strategic approach will also allow Uranex to maintain focus in 2012 on the Mkuju Uranium Project.

The current activities underway at the Songea project include geophysical down hole logging of the drill holes completed in 2011 and a review of the basin by consultants to target areas most likely to host near surface coal.

The Songea Coal project covers a total area of 2,606km2 in the Ruhuhu Basin that contains eleven recognised coalfields. The three most significant coalfields known as Ketewaka, Mchuchuma and Ngaka occur in a similar geological setting and lie within 50km to that of the Lumecha Coalfield.

A recent US$3 billion agreement between the Tanzanian Government and China’s Sichuan Hongda will see the development and mining of the adjacent Mchuchuma Coalfield. This represents the single largest investment in Tanzania. The coalfields are adjacent to a planned infrastructure build project including rail, road, power and port for domestic and export markets.

The 2011 exploration programme identified coal intersections in 5 drill holes at 4 separate sites, with an average drill hole spacing of between 2.5 and 3km within the coalfield area. More detailed information of the 2011 programme can be found in the announcement made on 24 February 2012.

Agency sets new rules for safety in coal mines

China's top workplace safety regulator is introducing national standards for sand and granite quarries act kenyasafety technologies used in the country's accident-plagued coal mines

A set of four standards on polymeric materials used for coal mining safety will take effect on Dec 1, according to the State Administration of Work Safety (SAWS). Mining ban in Karnataka may push up steel prices

Steelmakers and minegold gemstones diamond and silver mobil recovery equipments manufacturers owners, reeling under a ban on mining in Karnataka, are keeping their fingers crossed about the Supreme Court hearing scheduled on Friday.

The uncertainty in iron ore and the resultant rise in ore prices have led the steel industry to actively consider an upward revision in prices, just days after most companies mentioned of keeping product price levels unchanged. State sues Newmont Mining to recoup Empire Mine clean-up costs

The California Parks Department filed a lawsuit in federal court last Friday against Newmont Mining Corporation in an effort to recoup costs associated with the cleanup of Empire Mine State Historic Park.

The lawsuit -- filed by California Attosellers of used stone crushing equipments in egyptrney General Kamela Harris -- states that Newmont “owned and continue to have an interest in Empire Mine Park where they conducted mining operations, which have generated and continue to release hazardous substances.”

The environmental issues at the park center on the Magenta Drain, a large water channeling device built by Newmont to remove water from the approximately 370 miles of underground workings.

Magenta Drain flows into nearby Little Wolf Creek.

The mining company used a cyanide-and-mercury based process to extract gold from the ore, and combined with the extraction of large volumes of rock ore, heavy metals such as arsenic were released into the surrounding water and soil, according to the lawsuit.

Certain forms of arsenic are a known carcinogen and chronic exposure to the element can result in multiple human health hazards.

“The contamination left behind at Empire Mine Park by Newmont poses a substantial risk of harm to the environment and human health,” the lawsuit states.

In conjunction with Newmont, California State Parks installed a engineering project in November 2011 that used a natural filtration system to divest water siphoning from the Magenta Drain of iron, manganese and arsenic. The project alone cost $2 million and will likely cost about $20,000 in maintenance and the outcome of the lawsuit will decide who bears the burden of those and other remediation costs. The Empire Mine — one of the richest gold mines in California — closed in the mid-1950s after producing 175 tons of gold over a period of 106 years. The state bought the mine for a park in the mid-1970s and removed 46,000 tons of contaminated sediment from the area from 1986 to 1989. After filing a lawsuit in 2004, the environmental group Deltakeeper reached a compromise with state parks and Newmont Mining Corporation to clean up the Magenta Drain. Currently, the creek that runs through Memorial Park is cordoned off from the public as the three heavy metals have accumulated in the creek.

If and when clean up operations are performed, the fence will be removed and the public will once again be allowed to access the creek, Perry Myers, a project manager with the Department of Toxic Substances, told The Union in May.
