More protests over 26% coal profit share

The Childreiron iii oxide formulan's Investment Fund Management, a London-based hedge fund, has asked the Union government to reconsider the 26 per cent profit-sharing compulsion proposed to be imposed on domestic coal mining companies. The fund, actually a limited liability partnership which makes long-term investments in companies globally, is commonly known as TCI.

It had invested $1 billion (Rs 4,500 crore) in Coal India Ltd during the latter’s Initial Public Offer last October. A group of ministers chaired by Union finance minister Pranab Mukherjee had approved a change in existing law to compel all coal mining companies to share 26 per cent of their profits with local communities affected by their operations. A bill in this regard is to be tabled in Parliament. In a letter to Mukherjee dated July 21, TCI has said the move would have a negative impact on the country's growth. It has indicated this would significantly reduce the government’s scope to raise further capital from privatisation of stakes held in companies...

Rambler Metals' development of Ming copper-gold mine on track

Rambler Metals & Mining reported a year of signimolinos para la construccionficant progress as it confirmed it is on target to bring the Ming copper-gold mine in Canada into production next year. Key to achieving this goal is the Nugget Pond production facility, which Rambler bought from Crew Gold last year.

It is being developed to handle ore from Ming, which is 40 kilometres away on the Baie Verte Peninsula, Canada. Meanwhile, a feasibility study on Ming published in August revealed it will produce operating cashflow of US71 million, which gives a net present value for the mine of US14.3 million, discounted at 6 per cent. Initial capital costs are projected at US$25.5 million with sustaining capital estimated at US$27.9 million. After two fundraisers to bankroll the development of its Nugget Pond production facility, the group has C$8 million, up from C$2.1 million a year earlier. Rambler updated the market on its cash position in full-year results published this morning. They also showed the company posted a post tax loss of C$2.4 million, up from C$2.05 million previously...

DR Congo to up mining project levies

Democratic Republic of Congo will change its mining code to increase tanew and used balls for millsx rates and raise the government's minimum automatic stake in mining projects, the mines minister said on Wednesday.

Martin Kabwelulu said the current mining code, which is 10 years old, was not giving the government enough revenues from the mining sector. “We must increase receipts... all the African countries are in agreement that we can change our mining codes, because 10 years later we haven't seen the necessary resources,” he told reporters on the margins of a mining conference. “We're in the process of composing the text (for the new code) and we're going to present it to the new parliament.” Kabwelulu said the government would look to increase the 5 percent stake it gets when mining ventures start producing, without giving exact details. He said the government received around $100 million in receipts from...

pozzolan and cement clinker material

Pozzolan

A Pozzolan can be explained as a siliceous material that's non-hydraulic, but which can be able to combine with lime and water at normal (ambient) temperatures to make hydrates with cementing properties Due to the microporous structure of several pozzolans they can be an easy task to grind to products of high specific surface. Although amining equipment mining equipment machinery manufacturer gold pdfn easy task to grind pozzolans tend to be quite abrasive plus they may frequently have a moisture content that needs provisions for drying within the grinding circuit.

Pozzolans generally contribute less quickly to strength than GBS. Because of this, and quite often also as a result of difficulties with water demand, the fraction of natural pozzolans in pozzolan cements is normally kept below 35%.

In the merchandise from combined grinding of pozzolan and cement clinker the pozzolan is going to be expected to be very fine and also the clinker part to be very coarse because of the large difference in grindability of these two materials. This will in general terms result in a strength development with low early strengths and high late strengths. Further, Portland- Puzzolan cement from combined grinding will tend to have an increased water demand - as a result of very fine pozzolan - when compared to a product mixed of separately ground components with individually optimized particle size distributions.

Fly Ash (PFA)

Fly ash (or Pulverized Fuel Ash = PFA) is an artificial pozzolanic material with a reactivity similar to the reactivity of natural pozzolans. Hence, practical clinker replacements are normally below 40% with 20-30% as a typical range.

The particles of PFA are mainly spherical, having a portion being hollow. The fineness of PFA usually varies between 200 and 500 m2/kg (Blaine), (or 45 µm residues of 10-40%), meaning that it features a fineness similar to those of Portland cement. Therefore PFA is often introduced into blended cement with little or no grinding at all. If grinding is performed it's going to first result in crushing from the hollow and porous particles. A subsequent further grinding of the dense glassy material are usually rather energy consuming.

PFA is normally available like a dry powder ideal for pneumatic transportation.

A comparison from the three methods of making fly ash cement - combined grinding, separate grinding and direct intermixing from the PFA since it is received - established that one of the most favourable ratio between cement strength achieved and also the corresponding grinding energy is obtained with combined grinding. The direct intermixing of the PFA supplies the poorest solution with the three.

In many plant partial combined grinding is implemented in how the PFA is brought to the separator - no matter the kind of grinding circuit - and just the coarse particles are returned for the mill for more grinding. Those particles and agglomerates are then reduced in size as well as the reactivity is improved.

India state urges court to approve POSCO mining

Authorities of an Indian state trying to help South Korea's POSCO build a $12 billion steel plant urged the Supreme Court on Friday to uphold a decision to grant the firm mining concession for the mill, mobile crusher building waste for saleofficials said. POSCO, the world's third-largest steel maker, wants to mine iron ore in eastern Orissa state's iron ore-rich Sundergarh district for the proposed steel plant, which aims to have a capacity to produce 12 million tonnes of steel a year.

POSCO's proposed project is India's biggest foreign direct investment proposal, but it has been delayed by more than three years due to protests by farmers who fear losing their livelihood and green worries. In July, a lower court in Orissa had asked state government authorities to review their decision to recommend POSCO for a mining concession, after a local company, also seeking a mining concession, challenged the move. On Friday, the Orissa government filed a petition in the Supreme Court, saying the lower court's order be set aside and POSCO be given the mining concession. "(A) petition has been filed in Supreme Court today," Orissa's steel and mines minister, Raghunath Mohanty, told Reuters. "The recommendation of the Khandadhar mines in favour of POSCO was done as per the MMDR (Mines and Minerals Development and Regulation) Act and there was no violation."

PM rejects Twiggy's calls for discussion on MRRT

Prime Minister Julia Gillard has rebuffed calls from Fortescue Metals Group chief Andrew Forrest for open discussions on the mineral south bend lathe post grinder toolresource rent tax while she is in Perth, but says she has "always been happy to talk".

Ms Gillard was asked on ABC's 720 morning program to respond to a press release issued by Fortescue on behalf of Mr Forrest, requesting what he called an open discussion on the MRRT. "As I'm sure Mr Forrest is aware, I need to travel back to Brisbane… to debate Tony Abbott," Ms Gillard said. "On the mineral resources rent tax I've been happy to talk to people in Perth about that. "On earlier trips I've met with representatives of the mining community, including a representative of Fortescue Metals." Mr Forrest is one of the most vocal critics of the MRRT and his iron ore miner, Fortescue, is likely to be one of the biggest losers under the proposed tax.

Peru Requiring Miners to Consult Locals over New Projects

processing of marble mines

Peru's leftist president has signed a law requiring mining and energy firms to consult rural communities over new projects, a step aimed at averting conflicts that have stalled investments in recent years.

Rights groups representing indigenous communities have long called for the so-called consultation law, which stops short of giving them veto power over projects and is welcomed by industry leaders in the resource-rich Andean country. More than 100 people have been killed in recent years in conflicts over water, pollution or natural resources, often pitting residents in impoverished regions against foreign mining and oil companies. Peru's ombudsman says the new law, approved unanimously by Congress last month, could quell disputes that often turn violent and pose a threat to some $50 billion in investments planned for the next decade. President Ollanta Humala, who pledged to ensure the poor take part in...

International Ferro to Start Up Sky Mine by April; Shares Slump

Internatiogold mining rocker boxnal Ferro Metals Ltd., an operator of mines in South Africa that reported a fiscal first- half loss and reduced cash, will start up its Sky chrome mine by the end of April, funded mainly by its mining contractor. “The intention is to get in a contractor to do the open pit mining and that contractor will bear most of the capital cost,” Chief Executive Officer David Kovarsky said today.

Sky may produce 100,000 metric tons of ore a month from January 2012, and sales will help fund the cost of a processing plant, Kovarsky told a conference call, declining to elaborate. The contractor, to be named in about 10 days, will recover the costs of building the mine by adding them to its fees, he said. The company today reported a net loss of 106 million rand ($15 million) in the fiscal first half through Dec. 31, from 104 million rand a year earlier. The pretax loss of 160 million rand was almost three times Numis Securities Ltd.’s forecast. Gains in the South African currency eroded earnings in dollars, said the London-based producer of the stainless steel ingredient...

Sesa Goa seeks lifting of ban on ore transportation from government

Sesa Goa has written to the state governmenkue ken 120 42 x 32 double toggle jaw crushert seeking to lift ban on transportation of iron ore during monsoon, which has resulted in drying up of their raw material required to run two of their plants.

In a letter to District Collector N D Agarwal written this week, Sesa Goa said they will have to shut down both the Pig Iron Plant and metallurgical coke plant situated in Amona village of Bicholim taluka and lay-off workers as their raw material is drying up.

Both the plants require 3,200 tonnes of iron ore daily to run their operation, the company has said, demanding permission to ply 1,000 trucks daily between their mining site at Codli in South Goa and Amona, where the plants are located.

The letter has mentioned that total 780 direct employees will have to be laid-off, besides an additional 404 workers who are attached to 28 different labour contractors, who have been outsourced the jobs.

The company has also expressed worries over operation of power generating plant, which was working on the by-products generated from both the plants.

The PIP has an annual capacity of 250,000 tonnes per annum.

The supply of iron ore from Karnataka has also become scarce and very costly due to closure of all mines there, as per the Supreme Court order and stocks getting sold in e-auction.

Sesa has invested about Rs 650 crore which is the single largest investment in a manufacturing facility in Goa in last four-five years.

The new plant is ready for commissioning, the company officials stated.

Capstone Reports Expanded Copper-Gold Zones at Wildfire/Copper Keel, Minto Mine

Capstone Mining Corp.today announced assay results for twelve new holes from the Wildfire and Coppsingle impact crusher l t size appm 1822er Keel horizons at the Minto Mine.

Drilling results appear to be defining a thicker, shallower zone of copper mineralization (Wildfire) while, at the same time, extending deeper Copper Keel mineralization south and east, under the Wildfire zone. While moderate in grade, Capstone believes that Wildfire may be amenable to open pit mining, while the narrower Copper Keel mineralization may have potential for extraction by underground mining methods given its proximity to the proposed Area 2 underground mining area.

"The presence of multiple stacked mineralized copper-gold zones in the Wildfire area is encouraging," said Stephen Quin, President of Capstone. "Drilling is continuing with the objective of defining mineral resources at Wildfire and Copper Keel by year-end that are potentially extractable by open pitable and/or underground methods. Any such resources defined could be addressed in a supplement to the Phase V pre-feasibility study that is currently underway," he added.

As currently planned, the Phase V pre-feasibility study will incorporate mineral resources from Area 2, Minto North, Minto East and Ridgetop, with both surface and underground operations contemplated to be providing mill feed in parallel.

Wildfire / Copper Keel - Minto Mine

Additional drill roads over the Wildfire - Copper Keel area are now being constructed in order to facilitate the systematic evaluation of the Wildfire discovery and the underlying Copper Keel horizons, which have now been traced beneath the relatively shallow Wildfire mineralization. The two mineralized trends are stacked on top of each other, with the best grades at Copper Keel trending NNW-SSE, while those at Wildfire trend NNE-SSW. To date in 2010, Capstone has drilled 63 holes in the Copper Keel -- Wildfire -- Airstrip corridor. Prior to 2010, 40 holes were completed in this area.

A key objective for late 2010 is the production of a geological model and grade block model that ties all of the areas known mineralized areas south of the Minto Main pit together on multiple levels. This will not only facilitate estimation of mineral resources, but assist future exploration as mineralized trends are defined and gaps in drilling within certain mineralized horizons are identified.

Vale to build second iron ore storage ship in Asia

Vale will build a second floating iron ore storage vessel in Asia to feed shipments to its main market, China, a senior company official said on Monday, as the Brazilian miner works around Beijing's ban on its huge dry bulk ships.

China, the whow much money do i need to set up a aggregate crushing businessorld's largest iron ore importer, has closed its ports to Vale's huge dry bulk carriers after domestic ship owners protested against the arrival of the first and only so-called Valemax into the country in December.

That has forced Vale to take a more costly route to deliver iron ore to China, opening up a trans-shipment hub in the Philippines' Subic Bay port in February. The world's top iron ore exporter will also open a hub in Malaysia in 2014 and is considering projects in South Korea and Japan.

Vale's board of directors has approved the building of the floating storage vessel but the firm has yet to decide where it will operate when completed, said Claudio Alves, Vale's global marketing director.

"We are in the final contracting process and South Korea could be one possibility," Alves told reporters at a ceremony to name two Valemaxes. Many of the Valemaxes have been financed by Chinese banks and built by Chinese shipyards.

Vale's new floating storage unit will be similar to the Philippine-based Ore Fabrica, which is serving as a platform to transfer iron ore from Valemaxes to smaller vessels for transport to China and other Asian destinations, Alves said.

He did not say when the vessel would be completed nor how much it would cost.

Vale is counting on a fleet of 35 Valemaxes, each of which can carry up to 400,000-tonnes of cargo, to slash shipping costs to China to help it compete with Australian rivals BHP Billiton and Rio Tinto .

The 380,000-tonne Berge Everest was the first and only Valemax allowed into China, docking at Dalian Port on Dec. 28. Chinese shipping firms fear that Vale's vessels will be used by the miner to monopolise the lucrative iron ore trade between Brazil and China.

Zijin Mining Says Tin Mine Dam Collapse Led to Four Deaths, Investigation

Zijin Mining Group Co. said four people died after a tailingbenefication of magnetite iron ores dam collapsed, adding to safety concerns at China’s biggest gold producer two months after another accident poisoned almost 2,000 metric tons of fish. The dam at Zijin Mining’s Xinyi Yinyan tin mine broke on Sept. 21 after a landslide triggered by heavy rains from Typhoon Fanapi, the Fujian-based company said in a statement yesterday. The Guangdong provincial government is investigating, it said.

The incident comes after Zijin Mining pledged to improve its management and invest more on safety measures after toxic waste from a copper mine leaked into the Ting River in Fujian province, leading to investigations by the securities regulator and the police. A safety permit was obtained from the Guangdong province for its tin tailing pool, the company said yesterday. “We lack the official investigation results to know what happened,” Heng Kun, a Shanghai-based analyst at Essence Securities Co., said by phone. “This time it may just be an accident caused by the landslide. The July toxic spill was not purely an accident.”

Sovereign Gold company gold mine discoveries continue

Sovereign Gold Company has located a p42 36 jaw crusher for salereviously unrecorded gold mine shaft 1 km southwest from Frasers Find on EL 6483 in the Rocky River-Uralla Goldfield.

This shaft has been dedicated as the Diggers Shaft in honour of one of the last prospectors - Maurice Victor Charles Melvaine who passed away in 2010 aged at 90 years. The Diggers Shaft's significance was not fully understood until after the discovery of Frasers Find, interpretation of airborne magnetic data and review of historical documents about the goldfield. Samples of sheeted veins collected from waste piles beside Diggers Shaft assayed up to 2.39 grams per tonne gold, 3.76 ounces per tonne silver and 0.85% lead per tonne. No records of this shaft exist other than in A Prospector's Review of the Rocky River Goldfield at Uralla - an unpublished memoir written by Melvaine: "One of these reefs is a heavily mineralised true fissure reef which persists even though...

Gold Down In Asia But More Upside Likely

Gold and silver both softened in Asia Wednesday aftercrushing and identifying gold hitting record and multidecade highs, respectively, in late New York trade. Both metals suffered some mild profit-taking after gold hit a record of $1,434.90 a troy ounce and silver a 31-year peak of $34.73/oz, but even higher levels look likely, said a Singapore based trader at international bank. "I can't help being bullish now.

We are heading into uncharted territory." Traders said Asian hours have been mundane for gold and silver this week because the Middle East related newsflow only starts to pick up when London comes in. Progress from here is still news-driven, with Nymex crude oil's push above $100/bbl overnight and the tense situation in Libya encouraging gold buying both as a safe haven and as an inflation hedge, said Darren Heathcote, head of trading at Investec in Sydney. "Record highs will increase interest in gold, but investors will want to see real conviction in this move...
