Worker dies at Limpopo platinum mine

An employee at the Zonderwhich equipments are use for production of quartz powdereinde division of the Northam Platinum mine in Limpopo died on Friday, Northam Platinum Limited said. The employee was injured during water jet cleaning operations on May 27, spokesman James Duncan said in a statement.

“The name of the employee who died will be withheld until next-of-kin have been informed,” he said Spokeswoman Charmane Russell said the employee died in hospital, but she could not provide any more information. “Subsequent to the accident, water-jetting in development areas at the mine have stopped while the investigation takes place,” Russell said. National Union of Mineworkers spokesman Lesiba Seshoka said the death was “very sad”. “We are actually very disappointed by that, because clearly the number of mineworkers losing their lives are continuing to rise. “We had hoped that the death figure would stall.
